This blog will act as a learning log for the "Art of Photography" course which I'm studying. This course is the introductory module for the Open College of the Arts (OCA), Photography Degree course.

Shane Lavalette

I just read "Shane Lavalette: Picturing the South" in Hotshoe Magazine, August-September (I'm creating a bibliography where I can reference this kind of thing properly), and it struck me how much the below photo (which I found online in his blog -  http://www.shanelavalette.com/ ), is just what I was looking for with the Opaque shots I took for Assignment 1.

It's a beautiful shot which very simply shows how opaque water can be, the ripples in the reflection emphasise the surface rather than what lies beneath it. It's all about light and dark, what's reflected - outside rather than within/underneath. And murky, dense, dull colour.

I wonder how many shots he took to get the ripples just right.

Two Midnights - Shane Lavalette
