So I've taken all my photographs for Assignment 1 and I'm nearly done with editing the photos, writing it up and submitting the assignment.
Overall I'm reasonable happy with the completed assignment. In terms of my reflections against the assessment criteria:
Demonstration of Technical and Visual Skills - I think I displayed a range of technical skills in the shots - different compositional techniques, conscious use of different perspectives, awareness of colour and awareness of contrast. However, I really let myself down with some silly errors with focus and shutter speed on a couple of shots. I'm also not really very confident in my processing - I know I can over process sometimes and I'm never sure that I have the contrast levels (etc), right that will work well with other monitors. Each time I look at the photos I wanted to do something slightly different with them - in the end I decided I just needed to let it go and move on.
Quality of Outcome - Think I did OK on this one. I hope my work has been pulled together in a fairly coherent and easy to understand way. And I also think that I've presented my ideas in a complete and understandable way.
Demonstration of Creativity - Not sure on this one. I think I started to develop a personal voice, but certainly not consistently. I also think that I went beyond a boringly simple interpretation of the brief, but I know I could have gone further.
Context - I'm quite happy with this area. I know I've done quite a bit of reading and researching and added quite a few reflections in my learning log. I've also added quite a few reflections on my Assignment. Hopefully it's enough and I'm not just barking up the wrong tree.
Overall I'm happy that most of the photos are in line with the areas of photography that I want to develop further - landscape and the street. I am however surprised at how many have an abstract quality to them - but I guess that's driven by the simple and direct nature of the briefs. I did think while taking the photographs that I could have been less simplistic in my interpretation - e.g. taken a photo with a diagonal aspect to it's content or composition as opposed to taking a photograph which is completely and directly dominated by diagonal lines. However, that might have been expecting a bit much of myself for Assignment 1 and I might have come unstuck.
I've also been surprised by how different my final submissions are to what I intended to take when I started photographing for the assignment. And even more different to what I intended to take when I started this part of the course! But I guess that's good as it shows progress in my thinking and flexibility in my approach.
Anyway, it will be interesting to get my result and feedback from my tutor.
This is obviously also an important milestone within the course. The good news is that I'm getting everything personally from the course that I wanted to get - a more strucutred way to approach my hobby/interest and a really positive way to suck up all the spare time I can possibly find.
That said, I have some doubts (which I've got some unfinished blogs entries on which I'll post before long), but these doubts and scepticisms are also part of the interest and dynamic of my learnings.
All good then!(?)
