This blog will act as a learning log for the "Art of Photography" course which I'm studying. This course is the introductory module for the Open College of the Arts (OCA), Photography Degree course.

Oscar Ciutat

I found the work of Oscar Ciutat a few weeks ago, but haven't got round to writing it up due to commitments of getting Assignment 1 sorted.

I think I found his site by following a link on http://newlandscapephotography.com/ and was instantly struck by the diversity of his portfolio.

Tiny People is incredibly smart, and funny, but wouldn't be enough for me to warrant commenting on.

Caged is a completely different set of photographs. The sharpness of these is startling, as is the consistency between shots, if you move between the images they virtually blend in to each other, the animals even seem to be looking in the same direction.

With Departures and Arrivals the shots almost feel like a series of still from an animation, each capturing a segment of time from the same scene.

This consistency is felt again in Shelter and Lightfields where the horizon in each shot is precisely the same. I'm guessing the focal length is the same in order to aid the consistency.

In Generator, colour and use of line dominate in these simple (but still consistent), images.

What struck me with this portfolio was the consistency within each set, but complete different between each set. Very interesting.
